I love stories. I love reading. I love to create new worlds.
Even as a child, I would create elaborate stories to tell my little brothers, which I then acted out with puppets. We didn’t have access to television, so we created our own worlds with spies, cowboys, lawmen, princesses, magicians, and dragons.
Reading did not come easily to me, but when I finally found a book that interested me, I was hooked. I soon discovered the joy of being transported into alternate worlds through books. I constantly lived a life of adventure in romance, science fiction, or fantasy stories. I would escape to the forest to read until I became stiff and cold and had to return home to eat. I read everywhere. Each book was a chance to become a new person. I could do anything.
I’ve been jotting down ideas and dreams for years. I wrote my first Nancy Drew style story when I was 10, but stopped at chapter 15 because I couldn’t figure out how to get my hero out of the mess I’d put her in. I put aside my writing to run a business with my husband and raise our family. I never stopped reading and I attended writing conferences whenever I could. I attended the distance education at the Institute of Children’s Literature in 2000, before e-mail correspondence. I’ve continued to expand my knowledge of writing by taking courses, attending writing conferences, reading how-to books, and attended online training provided by websites such as Writer’s Digest and Holly Lisle’s How to Think Sideways.
I’m a member of SCBWI. I have participated in NaNoWriMo and CampNanowrimo since 2012.
Now, I’m living my dream of being a writer. I have so many stories to tell. I wish to bring the joy of new worlds and passionate characters to a new generation of avid readers.
